Rhythms of the Rogue

October 6th-9th, 2024

Trip Description

Embark on a transformational 4-day, 3-night therapeutic whitewater rafting experience with us as we guide you along Oregon’s stunning Wild and Scenic Rogue River. Traveling through deep canyons and lush forests, this trip is designed for women and non-binary folks ready for profound renewal, healing, and integration.

Autumn is a time of slowing down and tuning in. As the days grow shorter and nature turns inwards, we will follow her lead, immersing ourselves in the enchanting beauty of the Rogue River. With crisp autumn air breathing life into the changing leaves, each bend in the river and every splash of whitewater will connect you more deeply with yourself and the world around you, inviting you to embrace the wild and the wondrous within.

Led by an exceptional all-women team of experienced therapists and seasoned river guides, our Rhythms of the Rogue trip is designed to ensure your safety and enjoyment while offering compassionate therapeutic support. Our Therapeutic team will support you in exploring themes of integration, renewal, change, and release. Through guided discussions, reflective practices, and the river's natural rhythm, you'll find space to explore your inner landscape and emerge with a renewed sense of connection to self. Each day, you’ll find yourself aligning more closely with the natural rhythms of the river and the changing seasons while connecting with a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Whether through the exhilaration of navigating rapids or the serenity of a quiet evening by the river, each moment is crafted to help you release old patterns and embrace new possibilities, inviting you to slow down, listen, and integrate your experiences.

We are proud to partner with Arrowhead River Adventures, a small, family-owned and operated outfitter based in Oregon. Known for their intimate knowledge of and respect for the Rogue River, Arrowhead’s team enhances our journey with their expertise, values, and passion.

Trip Itinerary

October 6th: Arrive at our meeting point in Grant's Pass at 8 AM, Oregon, where we will connect in person for the first time and begin with a group orientation and safety briefing. Afterward, we'll launch on the river and start our adventure, navigating class II and III rapids and getting to know our community for the next four days. In the evening, we'll set up camp along the riverbank, enjoy a delicious dinner, and participate in therapeutic group activities.

October 7th: Start the day with a hearty breakfast, morning mindfulness, and movement before heading out onto the water. We'll spend most of the day rafting, connecting with the river and each other, and experiencing a mix of thrilling rapids and serene stretches of calmer waters. We'll take breaks for lunch and opportunities to explore scenic spots along our path and deepen our sense of place. In the evening, we'll set up camp, have dinner, and engage in reflective group discussions led by our therapists.

October 8th: Begin with breakfast and a morning mindfulness and yoga session. We'll then embark on our most exhilarating day on the river, navigating Class IV rapids such as the dramatic Mule Creek Canyon and iconic Blossom Bar. Opportunities for group connection and personal reflection abound amidst the exciting whitewater. We’ll end the day in revelry, setting up camp, enjoying dinner, and participating in a special activity focused on integration and renewal.

October 9th: After our final breakfast, we’ll begin our last day of river magic. Calm but enjoyable rapids are interspersed with beautiful calm pools and sprawling Oak savannas as we transition to a more coastal landscape. A delicious lunch and closing circle help us begin our transition away from the river. As we reach our endpoint at Foster Bar, we will unload our equipment and conclude our rafting journey. We’ll return for a celebratory dinner to close our time together and share stories, reflections, and gratitudes from the trip.

 FAQs

  • In general, a therapeutic river trip offers benefits such as relaxation, appreciation of nature, enhanced kinship and a sense of physical wellness. Most participants report a sense of peace and "living in the moment” after such a trip. It is our intention to deliberately shift our ordinary perception of time, easing out of the daily demands of “Kronos” time - the clock-and-calendar time that keeps us rushing in consumptive, capitalist dominant culture. Instead, we will yield to the flow of “Kairos” time, which processes in nature tend to follow, allowing for growth, play, mystery, and deep healing. It is important to note that while this trip is therapeutic in nature, it is not therapy nor is it a substitute for therapy. We recommend that if you are seeking serious mental health support that you find a licensed therapist in your area.

  • Our transformative canoe trip will include daily group process facilitated by experienced therapists. These containers create a safe, intentional, and supportive space for participants to share their thoughts, emotions, and personal experiences. The therapeutic process within the group setting allows individuals to explore and address various aspects of their well-being, fostering a sense of connection, support, and understanding among participants. These collective healing spaces foster a reciprocal relationship for healing with the land and water. Group sessions on our trip provide an opportunity for women-aligned participants to build meaningful connections, offer support, and collectively navigate the challenges and joys of the experience.

  • Each day on the river brings its own unique gifts, however most days will follow a similar schedule. We’ll wake up in the morning with the light and have some unstructured time to write in our journals, enjoy coffee and tea or do some morning yoga or meditation. After breakfast, we’ll pack up camp and load all of our gear into our rafts. We’ll push off from shore and spend most of the day playing and paddling along the river. There will be places to stop each day to swim, visit historical sites, or go on hikes up some of the side canyons. We’ll enjoy lunch and make sure everyone is staying hydrated throughout the day.

Every day will have therapeutic themes that will be discussed throughout the day and incorporated into various programming. We will start each morning with a check-in and introduction of the therapeutic themes for that day. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our new campsite and unload all of our gear - building a new cozy home for the night. This process requires the help of everyone and is a greatly rewarding way to get to contribute to our community. There will be some unstructured time to relax, explore, and connect with the land and each other while the guides begin to prepare dinner. After sharing a meal together, we’ll have discussions and create facilitated therapeutic group spaces, led by our therapeutic staff.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of moments to connect with and learn from all the members of our community, including our natural surroundings.

We encourage all participants to stay "clear-minded" throughout the trip. What this means is open to individual interpretation, respecting that each person may have their own definition of mental clarity. For some, it may mean avoiding substances altogether, while for others, it might involve personal choices that contribute to mental focus, emotional and physical well-being, and overall mindfulness.

We understand that individual needs and interpretations of the policy may vary. If you have concerns or specific questions about the Substance Use Policy, we encourage you to reach out to us. We are available to discuss and support you in making the most of your experience.

  • The temperature on the Rogue River can vary significantly depending on the time of year. In the fall, when our Rhythms of the Rogue trip takes place, you can expect mild to cool temperatures. Daytime highs typically range from 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C), providing comfortable conditions for rafting and outdoor activities.

Evenings and early mornings can be cooler, with temperatures dropping to 40°F to 50°F (4°C to 10°C). We recommend bringing layered clothing to adapt to these changes and ensure you stay warm during cooler periods.

The water temperature in the Rogue River during the fall is generally cool, so having appropriate gear such as rain jackets, rain pants, and lots of layering options (no cotton) can enhance your comfort while on the water.

For a more detailed packing list and recommendations, please refer to our Participant Guide or contact us directly. We're here to help you prepare for an enjoyable and comfortable experience on the river.
